The Supreme Court began exercising its jurisdiction to review the constitutionality of laws with the issuance of the Federal Supreme Court Law on 10/11/1953. Under this law, it exercised prior and subsequent review, and continued to exercise this prior and subsequent review jurisdiction until the issuance of Law No. (6) of 1982. The jurisdiction was then restored to it under Law No. (17) of 1994. Review of the constitutionality of laws in Libya was not isolated from political changes, as it witnessed many changes that affected its effectiveness and its review process.
